Accessories, accessories, accessories!

How cute are these!
You know what bugs me the most?  When I have the perfect outfit picked out, my hair and makeup is just the way I want it, and then....I have an earring emergency.  Ok, so that sounds a little silly but, the wrong accessory can really ruin the look.  Fortunately there is a cure.  Etsy is a huge help!  One of my favorite stores right now is The Shopping Lounge. This little store has some of the cutest things ever!  Nice pieces at insane pricing.  There are several things I just have to have and soon!

Do yourself a favor and check out these previously adored items.

I know many of you go to second hand stores and yard sales.  For people like me that do not have the time or ability to do so, this little store pulls the best items from these places and showcases them all for you.  Gotta love it!

Now for a little hair nonsense.

Ok, so this is my first attempt at a video.  I'm currently laid up with an ankle injury and need something to fill my time.  Have fun with this.  I can't stop laughing at myself!

Oh my goodness! Time to save on some great products!

Ladies....I'm sorry to report that Lime Crime is discontinuing their Magic Dust loose eye shadows.  On the plus side...they are 40% off when you use the code MAGIC40 so this is a great time to stock up on some pigment with a punch!  Just follow the link to their site on the left side of this page.

I want to talk a little bit about one of my favorite hair accessories today.  I love a snood.  They are easy to wear and have such a great look.  I personally like to team them with a blossom from Belle Blossoms or with a cute bow.  I have to say, they save time on your "do" too.  Can't tell you how many times I've gotten my victory rolls just right and the back of my hair just will not cooperate.  A snood is the perfect answer with the perfect vintage look.  Belle Blossoms has a great selection and you can find them here. They even have complete instructions as to how to wear them!

Love it with a big flower!
Another great site is an etsy store that I love.  ArtheliasAttic is where you can get hand made snoods in a multitude of colors.  They are made from vintage patterns and I adore them. I'm wearing a beautiful chocolate brown one right now with a big red rose.  I can't say enough about the quality of these snoods.  They are a must have for any vintage gal.

paired with the July BOM from Belle Blossoms

Too cute with its bow!
So, check out a snood!  Make sure you shop the 40% off clearance at Lime Crime too!

Have a fantastic day!

Rockabetty bags ROCK!

Ok, you have GOT to check these out!  I am so loving these bags.  I'm saving my pennies to get one ASAP.  This fabulous artist has made the cutest bags EVER!  Can you imagine carrying one of these babies on your arm?  I'm a die hard handbag addict and I need one or two of these beauties in my collection.
Day of the Dead Betty

I love this!

Ok so where do you get these gorgeous babes?  EASY  check out ROCKABETTY BAGS.  Everything you need to know is there. Katrina just posted that she can ship internationally!  YAAAY!
She does custom pieces so I plan on having a pinup that looks a little like me.  Oh the vanity!
Check out her page and take the time to watch her video.  This talented lady's site is worth more than just a quick look.  Happy shopping!

So, what is your vintage style?

Jayne Mansfield
Classic, rockabilly, zombie...so many other choices out there.  What is it that appeals to you?  I love rockabilly style.  The bright tattoos, colors in your hair, phenomenal make up.  Do I rock that style?  No, not really.  While I am totally drawn to it, I opt for a more classic look.  Yes, there are days that I do show my ink and go a little more daring but, I am 41 and I have kids that would totally freak out.  I'm not saying that at 41 you shouldn't rock a bangin' rockabilly look.  In fact, I believe the total opposite.  I just opt for my look to be a little more classic, a little more Marilyn.  A whole lot more Jayne.  I have to say, Jayne Mansfield is one of my absolute favorites.

Oh that my hair were that long!  I'm working on getting the color right but it is a work in progress so that I don't end up bald!
I love her style, her grace and her bombshell beauty.
Dita Von Teese
Another Diva that I adore is Dita Von Teese.  Seriously?  Wow, just wow!  This woman is a knock out!  Her style is impeccable. If only I could get her eyeliner technique down!  Jealous, yes, yes I am.

What about my Rockabilly fav?  That's easy, hands down I have to say I adore Miss K.  Who is Miss K?  Well, she has a blog called The Rockabilly Girl Next Door and the best youtube vidoes.  This chick rocks.  Seriously, how cute is she!

So, who are your favs?  I'd love to know.

Ok my divas, check this out!

I've been searching for the perfect red lipstick. I found it.  Oh the joy!  It doesn't look orange. It just has that beautiful vintage look that I have been searching for.  It's by Lime Crime. Let me tell you, this color is fantastic.  You know what else is pretty fantastic...its vegan.  I know some of you don't care about that but some of you absolutely do.  What I care about is that is is 100% cruelty free!  All of their cosmetics are and they are really high pigment.  You want that pop of color?  You got it.  You want a product that will wear all day?  Here it is.  Check out their complete line here at Lime Crime.  I am totally in love with Glamour101.

Get Marble Nails with Plastic Wrap: Mani Monday

As much as we love nail art, we’re better at admiring designs than coming up with them ourselves. That’s why we’ve enlisted Anna Norman, the smarty pants behind Glitter, She Wrote, to be a regular contributor. Every Monday, she’ll be sharing her latest lacquer inspiration—you won’t be satisfied with plain ol’ polish again.

Do you want fool-proof marble nails in just a few minutes? Get thee to the kitchen, because that roll of plastic wrap is about to become your new best friend. This mani is hard to mess up, and you probably have everything you need on hand so you can try it today!
What you’ll need:
-Two nail polishes. Try experimenting with similar shades, contrasting colors, or different finishes to see which look you like best. I’m using light grey Zoya Dove with a dark blue polish, China Glaze First Mate, on top.
-A glossy top coat. I’m using Sally Hansen Hard as Nails.
-Plastic wrap—the roll in your kitchen will be just fine! Cut 10 small pieces (one for each nail), and don’t worry if it crumples or sticks together. That’s the whole idea here.

Step 1: Paint your nails with your base color (in my case, the light grey). Make sure to let the polish dry completely before moving on.
Step 2: Working with one nail at a time, apply a coat of the second polish over one nail. Grab a piece of plastic wrap and move on to Step 3 while the polish is still wet.
Step 3: Immediately blot the top of your nail once or twice with a crumpled piece of plastic wrap. When the sticky wrap touches the wet polish, it will pull up a bit of the color, creating a marbled effect with the base color underneath. If you pull up too much of the wet polish, just add a little more color and dab at it with plastic wrap again. Continue until you’ve completed each nail.
Step 4: If you end up with some polish smudges outside the lines, dip a Q-tip or a small brush in nail polish remover to clean up around the edges. The surface of your nails may be a bit bumpy, so finish your marbled mani with one or two layers of top coat to achieve a smooth and shiny surface.
I love the amazing results you can get from such a simple technique—no steady hands or artistic skills required for this nail art look. Have fun!
We love super smart and easy nail art. Find even more of Anna Norman’s mani magic here.

Ok, to follow along with my jewelry fetish....

By now you can tell that I am a total jewelry lover.  So, where on earth can I find amazing vintage pieces at totally affordable prices?  A good friend of mine turned me on to an etsy store today that is fantastic!  The Shopping Lounge is just WOW!  You have got to check it out!  There are several things I am seriously in lust with right now.  Let's see if you beat me to them.

Another store that is fueling my fetish is Amula Designs.  This gorgeous little bird's nest necklace is just one of the many hand made designs you will find there.  Can't say enough about this piece.  It's just precious!
The sparrow reminds me of the tattoo designs that I love so much.

Speaking of tattoos...yes, I have them.  The world may not see them due to careful placement but I am seriously considering changing that.  I have been totally obsessed lately with both modern and vintage pinups.  Most of the vintage images I have found are not tattooed.  50's culture just didn't incorporate tattoos on women.  The modern versions, however, are a totally different story.  Some of the models are heavily painted while others are just adorned with one or two.  I think I tend to want to be somewhere in the middle.  Shoulder pieces, especially florals, are what I seem to be most infatuated with. That and the pinup girl tattoo itself.  I've been finding so many fantastic versions!  One of my new favorite sources is Atomic Bombshell magazine. The graphics are phenomenal.  Yes, it is more of a "gentlemans magazine" if you catch my drift, but it is really gorgeous.  If you aren't squeamish about women in various states of undress, the style and the attitude are amazing. No, I don't "get it for the articles".  I actually love the photos and the ads.  Every vintage, rockabilly, retro thing you could want is somewhere in the pages.  Volume 3 is now in presale.  I was thrilled that the back cover of volume 2 was a full page add for my favorite hair flower store, Belle Blossoms.

About the Artist
So, today I plan to check out The Shopping Lounge ( they have a fb page by the way) and to start making my wish list. I have a fantastic little dress that I need some accessories for. This is the About the Artist dress from Modcloth.  It comes in several other colors and I have linked the image to the site so click away!

I think my little bird nest will be so cute.  I was also thinking a really cute red polkadot shoe....what do you think?

Anybody else in love with vintage brooches?

I don't see many women, younger women, wearing brooches today.  I really think it's a shame.  These gorgeous pieces of jewelry are so versatile that I really feel they are completely under rated.  We may be talking about your grandmother's jewelry, but we don't have to wear them the way grandma did.
Here is part of my collection.

I find these little gems on ebay, tophatter, and etsy, not to mention yard sales and second hand stores.  Yes, I wear them the traditional way but there are so many other ways to wear them. I love them on a ribbon around your neck or on a head band.  They add sparkle to a belt and they look good on a bag!  One of my favorites was my oldest daughter's prom.  I gave her an "updo" then pinned a brooch in her hair.  It took quite a few bobby pins to secure it and was a little bit of an architectural feat in order to keep it balanced but it looked amazing! I know I have a photo somewhere but it eludes me at the moment.
Another way to wear them is to incorporate them in
to your other jewelry.  This piece was made for me by Brian, my best friend's husband.  I am totally in love with it!  The brooch as pendant is fantastic! (Not to mention the incredible chainmaille work he did.)

Adding a jump ring or just using the pin on the back you can change the look of almost anything by adding one of these beauties!
So next time you are at a yard sale or in a thrift store and a brooch catches your eye, pick it up!  They add bling to ordinary things like curtain ties, or even shower curtain clips!  Be creative and have fun!

Ok, so I'm obsessed

I am horribly addicted to makeup. I admit it.  There should be a 12 step program for people like me.  I love the way it looks and I love all the things you can do and hide with it.  What I do not love is how most of it feels. I love the little samples that come with a purchase from major brands.  How could I not?  Trying something for free?  Awesome!

So which ones do I love the most right now?  That's an easy one.  Philosophy wins the skin care division hands down. They have products for every skin type. I currently have a large bottle of their cleanser, purity made simple in my shower.  I use it every day and let me tell you, a little goes a long way!  My skin is visibly brighter and tighter after just a couple of uses.
Moisturizer is crucial, even in the summer.  Going from the sun (which hates me) to air conditioning can do a number on your skin.  My recommendation is hope in a jar.  It is non greasy and absorbs really quickly. If you have more mature skin, like I do, miracle worker lives up to it's name.  Yes, it is a little heavier so I use it at night.  Guys, these products are unscented and are great for you too!  Philosophy also sends two samples with each shipment.  You choose the samples you want so you can try before you buy.  Yes, they are a little pricey but as I said, a little goes a long way so it is well worth the money!
As far as makeup goes, I am a Geller Girl.  I love Laura Geller cosmetics. I've tried every powder/mineral make up out there and this is the one I live in.   Ulta is having a special right now and you can get the All Stars kit pictured above for a try me price of $39.50 right now!  You really can't beat that and you will thank me if you try it.  I believe in these products so much that I am now purchasing them as gifts for the women in my life.  They are now all hooked too!
The secret to this kit is the spackle. Yes, I said spackle.  How many times have we joked about spackeling our faces?  Well, now I seriously do every day.

Under your makeup and over your moisturizer it seals in the moisturizer and keeps the makeup and other things like pollution out of your skin.  It glows!  Ok not in the dark but it gives your skin a really beautiful light.  I use it with or without foundation depending on the day.  I won't be without it!
The powder foundation is like none other I have ever tried.  It is completely weightless and it stays in place all day when you use the spackle. With a deal like Ulta has going on right now, it's worth checking it out.  I'm sure you will agree that being a Geller Girl is a good thing.

So why am I so obsessed with these products?  Well, they work.  Not something I can say for all the products I've tried.  There is a noticeable difference when I use them.  That "holy wow" factor is there from the first use.
You want to create vintage makeup looks?  You need to use good products.  So far, these are the ones I choose. Try them out and see what you think .

I'd love to know what your favorites are and why.  I'm always willing to try something new!

Have a beautiful day!

All the things I love

Welcome!  Come on in and have a seat. Don't mind the dogs, they will move, eventually.  There are so many little pieces of perfection that I have discovered lately. I wanted to share a few of them with you.  If you love vintage clothing, rockabilly and retro style, jewelry, art and makeup you are in the right place.  I am happy to show you a little glimpse into my eclectic and vintage loving life!

One of the first things I want to share with you is Belle Blossoms.  The gorgeous little orchids I am wearing in my hair are the July Blossom of the Month.  Heather and her staff at Belle Blossoms make these beauties!  I absolutely am in love with their hair flowers and can't say enough about them.  Check them out at www.belleblossoms.com

I recently got this beauty from them as well.  Totally worth every penny and priced so well that I am starting a collection that I intend to grow and grow!

I love hearing about vintage finds and where to get the best deals on the best products.  I also love sharing these things.  Please let me know where you love to shop!
